Beethoven – Egmont Overture Dvorák – Cello Concerto Elgar – Enigma Variations
Armenian-born cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan, First Prize-winner at the 2008 Young Artists International competition, makes his Naples debut performing Dvorák’s heroic Cello Concerto, written during the composer’s time in the United States. The program also showcases Elgar’s beloved Enigma Variations, his most popular work for orchestra. Enigma features an engaging series of 14 variations, each an affectionate portrayal of a person (or in one case a dog) in the composer’s life, including the famous Nimrod Variation. The concert opens with Beethoven’s famous, powerful Egmont Overture,a powerful composition that begins in a somber mood, turns defiant and ends triumphantly.
