FANFARE* (ROBBINS/BRITTEN)
BUGAKU (BALANCHINE/MAYAZUMI)
THEME AND VARIATIONS (BALANCHINE/TCHAIKOVSKY)

The program opens with the company premiere of Fanfare, Jerome Robbins' enchanting tribute to Queen Elizabeth II – a bright and quirky take on Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Next is Bugaku, Balanchine's most erotic ballet, a highly stylized Japanese mating ritual, originally created for Allegra Kent and Edward Villella. The closing piece is the spectacular Theme and Variations, set in a 19th-century ballroom to the soaring music of Tchaikovsky. This is classic ballet at its grandest – with a large cast, lavish costumes and elegant dancing.
