Name: Adam Satinsky

Instrument: Cello

Hometown: Potomac, MD

At what age did you begin playing your instrument? 6

Who have been your greatest musical influences? I have every Jacqueline Du Pre album she ever made, all of which I used to play along with in my childhood bedroom. Of course, my cello teachers shaped how I think about music, most influential being Janos Starker.

Who are your favorite composers? Brahms, Bach, Beethoven (the 3 Bs).

What career path would you have taken had you not chosen music? Snooker champion – no, actually, I never took anything else very seriously.

What's currently playing on your iPod or CD player? Genesis – Duke (classic rock).

Your hobbies and interests: Yoga, pool, Scrabble, reading, writing.

Some little-known, yet interesting facts about you: I'm a good English teacher.

Funniest concert moment:They generally involve the witty repartee within the cello section, which probably shouldn't be repeated here.

Daily practice rituals: Lately I have been practicing being as loose as possible, plus keeping my motions unfettered and simple, even at the expense of sound production.

The question you're asked most often about your instrument (and your answer): At airports, generally: “Don't you wish you played the piccolo?" (I just chuckle politely.)

Your favorite part about playing in the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra: I like the variety of programming – every week's an adventure!
